Tiruttani is a special grade Town Panchayat in  Tiruvallur district.  It is 84 kms away from Chennai. It is situated on the northern border of Tamilnadu. A small river called Nandhi is  flowing on  the northern part of the town. It  is  well connected by roads and rails. The city is supplied with drinking water from the pond "Thamaraikulam".  The total area of the town covers around 12.42 sq.km.  The population of the town is nearly 40,000 as per the 1991 census.
